Lucca is one of the best kept secrets of Tuscany.

Pisa

The city of Pisa is one of the most important cities in Tuscany and is very well known all over the world, thanks to its famous symbol: the leaning tower, known as the Tower of Pisa. The tower of Pisa, located in Piazza dei Miracoli with the Duomo, the Baptistery and the Camposanto, is the symbol of the city, as well as being one of the most famous monuments in the world.

There is uncertainty about the architect's name, but we know exactly that the beginning of the construction dates back to 1173. When the third ring was built, the building began to tilt, because the structure weighs on foundations. This was the main reason why the construction was interrupted and resumed only in 1275. The other three floors were built with opposite inclination to balance the tower. For centuries, architects have tried to make up for it, but in vain.

Although in 1944, a terrible bombardment threatened the stability of the tower which, fortunately, has resisted until today.

Finally, since 2001, the tower has been reopened to the public and it is possible to visit it. Here Galileo Galilei performed his experiments to study the equations of falling bodies. Today, the tower is monitored through modern technology that ensures its safety.
